Save The Granada's Vision
The vision that Save the Granada has for the Theater is to create a Multi-Purpose Cultural and Performing Arts Theater in the heart of a revitalized Downtown. The Granada is a unique Art Moderne Theater in that it was built to be multi-purpose venue. While its main thrust was as a movie theater, in the past is has been used for lectures, Church services, Plays and concerts. It was only when Morgan Hill’s Downtown went into decline did the Granada function solely as a movie theater.
In the 80’s when it was “tweened” (split down the middle and made into a two screen theater) the functionality of the Granada became solely a motion picture house.
Save the Granada believes that with vision, hard work and both public and private capital that the Granada can once again become an active and valued partner in bringing people to Downtown.
First and foremost is to remove the partition and restore the Theater to its original state, making sure that all renovations focus on the Mixed Use nature of the theater.
Below are a few of the ideas being considered for this mixed use Theater.
Concert Series focusing on the many different genres
- Local & Nationally known Jazz, Blues & Big Bands for example
Home to and main viewing screen for the Poppy Jasper Film Festival
Lecture series
- Political, General Interest, venue for the Math Institute Lecture Series
Classic Movies
- Bogart Week, 70’s Week, Christmas Movies in December
Cartoon Series
- Saturday Matinees’ with a few shorts and an animated classic
-
First Run Animation films
Dance productions
- Both local and internationally known groups
Comedians
- Local Comedy Night is looking for a larger venue
Band concerts
- Local and nationally know groups
Center & Staging area for Wine Strolls and other walking events for Downtown
A rentable facility for all types of private and public activities
With its close proximity to San Francisco, the Granada Theater can be a theater that would attract nationally and internationally known groups looking for a small venue to introduce new material. San Jose and Santa Cruz are two local communities that attract well known artists for small venues and intimate settings.
The Save the Granada group envisions an active Fine Arts Commission dedicated to bringing events and programs to the Theater that would bring a steady stream of attendees not only from the surrounding community but from Silicon Valley as a whole. This Fine Arts Commission would be tasked to make The Granada Theater in particular and the Downtown of Morgan Hill in general a destination for all things cultural and that fit into the family oriented nature of Morgan Hill. Not just a motion picture house, the Granada was and can be a vibrant Multi-purpose Theater bringing a variety of events that will be the heartbeat of a vibrant and revitalized Downtown Morgan Hill. |
