Step by Step Guide for Petition Signature Gathering
You must be a Morgan Hill Resident and eligible to vote in the City of Morgan Hill elections to sign the petition and circulate the petition. If you are not you can buddy up with someone who is or you can donate here:
Everyone who signs the petition must be a registered voter and eligible to vote in the City of Morgan Hill elections.
There are three pages to the petition, pages 1 and 2 – looks like all the legal stuff – is the legal stuff. It is the entire petition and on page two an area for you to certify that you collected the signatures that you will be turning in. If anyone asks what the petition is about, please feel free to have them read all about it.
The last page at the top is the summary of all the legal stuff, the summary of the petition and an area where you and 10 of your closest friends will sign. Be sure to leave blank the part that says for official use only.
Once your petition is full you can download another page 3 and keep going or you can drop the signed and certified petitions off at Carta Luna, Music Tree or the Intero Real Estate Services Office to my attention (Pamala Meador) – or contact us at:
and we will come and pick them up.
To summarize what the petition is all about – basically is changes the Downtown Specific Plan so that the Granada and the parcel that it sits on will be designated for entertainment use. What we did was lift the same wording from the Downtown Specific Plan and change where it said Granada or some other location to Granada only. Any references to RDA funds was already in the Downtown Specific Plan – we are not asking for anything other than what was already agreed upon.
This is not self serving – it does not mandate that the Save the Granada organization get control of the site and still gives the City flexibility. If they want to put a movie theater in the Granada they can still do that.
The purpose of the Petition is to have an Open and Honest debate about the fate of the Granada and to put the issue to the people. Even the Beyond Measure A people did not touch the disposition of the Granada – deeming it a Hot Button Issue. Passions run deep on this issue and it should be Discussed, Debated and resolved by the people who will be left in the community once the City Manager, Staff, City Council and the Developers have all left town.
We only need 180 of our loyal supports to get themselves and ten of their best friends to sign the petition and we have reached our goal – be one of the 180 – do it today!
